ABOUT
Spym is a multidisciplinary design practice, specialising in interiors, spaces, objects, and experiences. Our projects range from small retail designs to large office renovations and restaurant interiors, all made to create a perfect synergy between function and atmosphere.
With a background spanning over 15 years, SPYM operates at the intersection of design and realisation — developing concepts, guiding execution, and collaborating with a trusted network of makers. The work is defined by a clear design philosophy and a sensitivity to how spaces are not only seen, but also felt and used.

Information
Auping’s identity is rooted as much in how its products feel as in how they look — experienced through multiple senses, especially touch and comfort, and closely related to the language of interior architecture. For Auping Netherlands, SPYM developed three distinct physical environments that highlight the qualities of their mattress.
Each setting is defined by its own material palette, yet designed to feel part of the same family and share a monumental spatial character. Using relatively lightweight and transparent materials, the volumes appear bold and architectural despite their subtle construction. Within each set, choreography interacts closely with the spatial compositions, shaping how the materials and volumes are ultimately perceived.

Information
For the second location of AndSome on the Willemstraat in Amsterdam’s Jordaan district, we transformed a former car garage into a contemporary hair salon. Behind a modest street façade, the space extends into a deep interior with a private courtyard, creating an unexpected sense of light and openness.
The existing grid of steel beams and large roof lights formed the basis for the spatial layout. This structural rhythm guided the positioning of mirrors and lighting, bringing clarity and balance to the salon. A ceiling clad in oak veneer adds warmth, while custom furniture in dark oak veneer, stainless steel and sage-coloured HPL creates a refined yet robust material palette.

Information
Located just behind the lively Overtoom in Amsterdam West, Café Wilhelmina occupies a monumental 1930s building that has historically functioned as a neighbourhood bar. Within a compact footprint spread across three floors, the design creates a warm and accessible brown café centred around familiarity, comfort, and social interaction.
The interior draws inspiration from a low-key French bistro aesthetic with subtle Art Deco references. Locally sourced wood in varying tones is combined with cream and off-white hues, vintage lighting, mirrored glass, brushed stainless steel, aged leather, Bordeaux HPL, and handmade tiles. The bar anchors the ground floor, with seating above and the kitchen below — organising the space vertically across its three levels.

Information
Taqueria Clamato is a Mexican restaurant in the centre of Nijmegen, bringing authentic flavours and culinary tradition to the city with a focus on sustainability and locally sourced ingredients. SPYM handled the spatial and fixture design, shaping an interior that emphasises texture and tactility to match the restaurant's concept.
Concrete, oak, pine, Corten steel, stainless steel, brick, and coloured laminate are finished to create an atmosphere that feels lived-in. A concrete bar integrates all serving functions, while the Corten steel back bar and lighting elements provide a warm glow that draws out the material textures throughout the space.

Information
Located on the green edge of Amsterdam South, MSpace features a spacious open lobby with sight lines from the ground floor to the fifth floor. Built in the 1990s and gradually fallen behind contemporary standards, the building informed a design that works with its expressive materiality, layering in natural materials with refined finishes and a strong contrasting colour.
To activate the space, we introduced a range of seating typologies for both short and long stays, supporting active and informal use throughout the lobby. Custom elements such as bars, room dividers, seating islands, and a sculptural seating piece framed by five-metre-high plants give the space structure and character. A palette of concrete, natural oak, two shades of grey, and cobalt blue Kvadrat upholstery creates a fresh and timeless interior.

Information
Located in a late-19th-century corner building on the Lindengracht in Amsterdam's Jordaan neighbourhood, Café De Linden is a place for breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks. As the building historically already was a bar, the space retains several original features, including stained-glass windows and an uncovered 1850s mosaic floor, which was restored and integrated into the new design.
Inspired by Art Deco architecture and the atmosphere of Italian aperitivo bars, the interior combines custom furniture and lighting with carefully selected vintage elements. A material palette of solid wood, stainless-steel worktops, and mirrors, surrounds a central bar that anchors the space, harbouring both Dutch nostalgia and modern warmth.

Information
Located in the centre of Amsterdam, One Studios brings together three recording studios, a content creation space, and a communal lounge. Conceived as a creative home for both local and international artists, the project unites Sony Music, LASER, and House of Aces in collaboration with Sony Electronics, Sony Publishing, and PlayStation.
The interior concept reflects the idea of a continuous work in progress. Raw construction materials – roof panelling, stained plywood, galvanised tubes, and tension straps – are applied with precise detailing, leaving them intentionally unpolished. Developed in close collaboration with creative directors Celis Jansen and Joeri Worm, the space forms a dynamic environment where creativity, collaboration, and production come together.

Information
For JD Sports Fashion, we designed and produced a series of modular bar elements that can expand or contract depending on the needs of in-store activations. The units function as workstations for sneaker customization as well as flexible platforms for brand experiences and seasonal campaigns.
Constructed from 3mm folded laser-cut steel with a fine-texture powder coating, the elements are durable and adaptable. Their proportions are aligned so different configurations create a dynamic visual rhythm when repositioned. Practical solutions such as seating attachments, cable routing and interchangeable LED screens ensure flexibility across retail environments. The system was developed in close collaboration with creative director Solomon Kifle.

Information
Interior design and project management for Café Klein, located in a 1930s building on a lively street in the centre of Nijmegen. Inspired by the visual world of French artist Yves Klein, the concept reinterprets the atmosphere of a modern bistro, balancing an approachable café setting with the refinement of fine dining and a menu centred around French-inspired dishes and natural wines.
The interior combines laser-cut stainless steel furniture, custom lighting and upcycled classics, creating a layered and characterful space. Materials such as glass bricks, brushed stainless steel, mirror glass and stained solid wood form a palette that bridges classic craftsmanship with contemporary clarity, giving the bistro a bold yet familiar identity.

Information
AndSome is an all-gender hair salon with two locations in Amsterdam. Formerly known as ByJelle, we led the design and execution of their West location to complement their 2023 rebranding into AndSome. The design introduces clearly defined zones through custom furniture elements, combining raw materials with precise detailing to create a refined and functional environment.
Materials include European ash and transparent lacquered blue steel, balancing warmth with crisp structural lines. Solutions such as bespoke legs, handles, holders, and hooks are integrated throughout the space. Mirrors are aligned with the ceiling lighting grid, creating rhythm and clarity, while reflective surfaces add depth and dynamism to the salon.

2023

In 2023, we were invited by our friends at the Binnenvisser Group to design the interior for their new restaurant: Calisto, a trattoria-style space bringing la cucina romana to the Haarlemmerdijk in Amsterdam. The brief was to create a warm, accessible and authentic environment that reflects the essence of Roman cuisine while resonating with the urban character of the city.
For the spatial concept, we developed a calm and refined design language supported by a carefully composed palette of natural materials. We worked with stained oak in various finishes, creating a unified and consistent expression enriched with subtle nuances. This wooden foundation is complemented by classic granito countertop surfaces, off-white tiling, and purposefully exposed appliances, resulting in an honest, crafted and timeless atmosphere.
The interior tells the story of a modern trattoria: warm, functional, and unpretentious — yet full of tactile details for those who look a little closer.
