For this building on the green edge of Amsterdam South, we began by studying the existing architecture. The property features a spacious open lobby with sightlines from the ground floor up to the fifth floor. Built in the 1990s, the building had gradually fallen behind contemporary standards. Our approach was to preserve the expressive materiality of the original architecture while introducing natural materials with refined finishes and a strong contrasting colour.

To activate the space, we introduced a range of seating typologies for both short and long stays, supporting active and informal use. Custom elements such as bars, room dividers, seating islands and a sculptural seating piece with five-metre-high plants help organise the lobby. A palette of concrete, natural oak, two shades of grey and cobalt blue Kvadrat upholstery creates a fresh and timeless interior.
